Whether you want to connect your Android phone to Windows PC for file transfer or simply to make backups, there are multiple ways that you can do it. Your Phone, or Phone Link, is an official Microsoft application that lets you connect your phone to your desktop computer so that you can work more comfortably. Link to Windows on Android Devices

If you used Link to Windows on Android, upgrade it to the latest version. 

  • Select Samsung, HONOR, and Surface Duo Android 9.0+ smartphones come preconfigured with Link to Windows. Swipe down from the top of your screen to find the Link to Windows app under Quick Settings. 
  • All other Android devices running Android 7.0 or later should download Link to Windows from Google Play.

  • Pair your phone to your PC to make and receive mobile calls.
  • View your photo gallery.
  • Send and receive SMS text messages, photographs, emoticons, GIFs, and media.
  • Group conversations and message history.
  • Spotify and other phone music players let you play, stop, and skip tracks.
  • Put your phone in “Do Not Disturb” mode.
  • Manage app notification rights and see, dismiss, pin, or remove all alerts.

How To Set Up Phone Link

Phone Link connects to Android phones through Wi-Fi, mobile data, or instant hotspot 8.9. For simple Wi-Fi connection, keep your PC and Android smartphone close, turned on, and on the same network. You may use it on your PC if both are online. Download the Link to Windows app for most Android smartphones. Google Play Store has this.

Link to Windows may be pre-installed on Samsung or HONOR phones. If not, get it from Google Play or Galaxy Store.

Starting with Windows:

  • Search for Phone Link in the taskbar search box and choose the app.
  • Choose the Android system.
  • You’ll be asked to sign in to your Microsoft account (you’ll need to be signed in to the same Microsoft account on both your Android device and PC in order to link your devices.)
  • Enter your PC’s URL into your Android device’s web browser.
  • Use your PC Microsoft account to log onto the companion app.
  • Return to your PC and confirm I have the Link to Windows app installed on my phone after signing in. Click Pair with QR code.
  • Your PC will display a QR code. The companion app on Android should open to a camera screen. Please scan the QR code on your PC using this screen.
  • After linking your devices, Android will request numerous permissions. These rights let you access phone content on PC.

Starting from Android:

  • Enter www.aka.ms/addpc into your Android browser and download the Link to Windows app.
  • It will ask you to launch Link to Windows, pre-installed on Android.
  • If you’re starting from your phone, sign in to the companion app with the same Microsoft account you use on your PC to link your devices.
  • Scan a PC-displayed QR code after logging in. To access it on PC, visit www.aka.ms/addpc.
  • Link your Android mobile to your PC by scanning the QR code with the companion app’s camera.
  • You’ll need device permissions to view stuff on your phone and PC.
